Saugues and Chanaleilles

When he arrived at Saugues, the Jacquian pilgrim had already 45km in his legs.  This city of Gévaudan had sheltered the King's dragons come to hunt the "beast of Gévaudan" just before the revolution of which we can admire the wooden statue.  You can also deepen your knowledge by visiting the fantastic museum of the beast of Gévaudan.

It's a meeting point between the pilgrims arriving from Puy and those coming from Brioude.
Saugues is also known for its brotherhood of White Penitents created to ward off the Plague that was raging in the Gévaudan in 1721.

The Plague wasn't the only misfortune of the city.  As an equal witness the tower called the English, Great Square keep of the 13th century with machicolation, which was occupied by the "Routiers" marauding allies of the English during the 100 year war.

Chanaleilles is the last step before arriving in the Lozerian Aubrac.  You can appreciate the elaborate belfry of its church, the peat bogs that mark the landscape.  Next step Saint-Alban on Limagnole.

Then towards Saint-Roch
